11 year anniversary…
This Saturday, June 14th is the annual Farmbrook garage sale day. The garage sale day holds a special place in my heart because 11 years ago I went to a house on Clovermeadow and found the first love of my life, Cody, a German Shepherd / Lab mix puppy.
See, I had my share of dogs in my life. My first dog Lady who was a German Shepherd / Collie mix had to be put to sleep when I was 8 because she was blind and had diabetes. Then we got a new puppy named Bear who was a Husky / Black Lab mix. He got hit by a car in October 1996. The next seven months was the longest I’ve lived without a dog in my life.
So when the summer came and I saw these puppies, I knew I had to have one, only my mom did not feel the same. Because it was towards the end of the day and everyone was leaving the garage sales, I asked the lady how much the puppy would be. She said I could have him for the special price of $10. That’s right, only 10 bucks! So, I did what any normal 11 year old would do who wanted something that I knew I couldn’t have and needed money for. I went to my mom asked her for $10 to get “something I really wanted”. I never told her what that something was.
My friend Arielle and I went back to the house on Clovermeadow and gave the lady my $10. I had just bought my very first puppy! We had to get him home but we didn’t have a leash or anything so he had to be carried. I didn’t really know too much about dogs back then, I just knew I didn’t want to get peed on so I made Arielle carry him home for me haha.
After 11 years, my once tiny puppy is now a nearly 70 pound old man. Whenever anyone would say I had a big dog I thought they were crazy because he never looked big to me since I was always around him and never around little dogs. After moving and being around 30 pound Preston and all of Greg’s parent’s little dogs, I finally see what everyone was saying because whenever I go home now Cody looks gigantic to me. It’s funny because whenever I talk about Cody I call him my “big boy” and when I talk about Preston I call him my “little man”. Cody has been the best dog anyone could ask for. He is my best friend. I love him so much and it’s been really hard being away from him this past year. I wish I got to see him more. He sure is beautiful. So here are some pictures of him from the past few years. The next time I go home I’ll get the picture of the first day I got him, scan it and post it here.

Cody and Samarie the giraffe were best friends too.

Big Smile!
These next ones were obviously taken April 2006 when I had long hair.

That’s my favorite picture of him!

The first two loves of my life Halloween 2006.

This is us on my birthday last year.
